James T. “Jim” Thompson, 74, of Galesburg, died at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016 at home. Jim was born June 20, 1941 in rural Knox County, Illinois the son of Ira T. and Ruth M. Brooks Thompson. He married Charlene K. Haker on March 15, 1969 in Galesburg. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlene; one brother, R.R. (Rose) Thompson of Oak Forest, IL; one sister, Mary (Francis “Sonny”) Rutledge of Galesburg; one sister in law, Christine (Joe) Brennan of Holt, Michigan; nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jim LeMasters; and one nephew, Troy Rutledge. He attended Galesburg High School and obtained a G.E.D. Jim worked at McDonald’s from 1960 to 1973 and then began working at Butler Manufacturing, retiring in 2001. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a member and past board member of the Galesburg Rifle Club. Most of all Jim enjoyed being with his family. He enjoyed traveling with Charlene and taking scenic pictures along the way. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
