James K. Kubis

James Kevin Kubis, 64, of Galesburg, died at 11:32 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at home. Jim was born May 30, 1957 in Galesburg, the son of John and Kathryn A. (Johnson) Kubis.  He married Cindy Kay Hottinger in 1977 in Galesburg.  She survives of Galesburg.  Jim is also survived by one daughter, Angie (Brad) Buchen of Galesburg; two sons, James D. “Dusty” (Nicole Stewart) Kubis of Galesburg and Jason (Mandy James) Kubis of Good Hope; and 11 grandchildren.  Jim is also survived one brother, Garry Kubis of Yates City; and one sister, Karen (Dave) Huey of California.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Jim followed in his father’s footsteps and became a licensed electrician.  Jim and his brother took over Haskins Electric eventually changing the name to Helpco Electric.  He was a longtime member of IBEW Local 34 and served as president for the Galesburg Jaycee’s for many years.  Jim had a lifelong love for computers and technology and enjoyed tinkering with electronics and watching movies. Cremation rites will be accorded.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made in Jim’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
