James L. Horaney, 77, of 1416 E. Knox St., Galesburg, died at 5:28 a.m. on Sunday (July 6, 2008) at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Jim was born on December 24, 1932 in Galesburg, the son of William L. and Mary Onderko Horaney. He married Iris Cacopardo on February 14, 1961 in Galesburg. She died on March 1, 2008. Surviving Jim are 2 step sons, Cleo Ceasar Gibb of Galesburg and Paul (Donna) Gibb of Metamora; a step daughter, Shirley (Pat) Nemeth of Ladd; 2 brothers, William Horaney and Thomas “Topper” Horaney both of Galesburg; and a sister, Christine Thurman of Galesburg. Also, surviving are 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers. Jim served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Dewdusters golf league, and a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 10 at Corpus Christi Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Church.
