Javon Butler

Javon Gaberial Evett Butler, 15, of Galesburg, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013 in Galesburg. Javon was born May 17, 1998 in Galesburg, the son of Wilbert Jones and Sheila Alfred. Javon is survived by his mother Sheila of Galesburg; his grandmas, Willie Watson of Galesburg and Loretta Thompson of Chicago; step dads, Aslan Butler of Peoria and Solomon Thompson of Galesburg; three brothers, Aslan Butler, Jr., of Galesburg, Latrell Thompson of Galesburg, and Namolos Thompson of Peoria; and three sisters, Keila Butler, Kendra Butler, and Kiara Alfred Thompson all of Galesburg. He is also survived by two step sisters, Anita Guyton and Labrika Butler both of Peoria; and one step brother, P.J. Guyton of Peoria; one niece, Kamarah Butler; and two nephews, Kamari Butler and Cayden Thompson, as well as many special cousins and special friends and a best friend Lakota Beach. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Jones; a grandpa, Simon Alfred; an Aunt Jytone “Gee” Morgan; and an Uncle Roger Ferguson. Javon accepted Christ at an early age and was a member at Community Temple of C.O.G.I.C. He was currently a sophomore at GHS North. Javon was a loving and adventurous young man. He loved his family fiercely, always had a smile on his face, and loved to eat. He was a natural athlete and loved to play baseball and football, but basketball was his true sport. He had participated and volunteered in several Silver Streaks basketball camps. His true life passion was rapping. He had always loved to sing and it transitioned in to his love for rap. Javon had a mentor and had spent last summer working for him at his house learning to cut grass and do many different odd jobs. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church. Pastor L.V. Cliff will officiate. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Javon Butler Memorial Fund at Midwest Bank of Illinois.
