Jerome “Jerry” W. Mower, 90, of 458 Knollcrest, Galesburg, died at 2:04 a.m. on October 5, 2006 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Jerry was born on June 18, 1916 in Galesburg, the son of Edward B. and Mary F. Cullen Mower. He married Helen “Pat” Hatcher on October 2, 1939 in Vandalia, MO. She died on June 12, 1998. Surviving are two daughters: Linda (Oral) Goble of Lake Placid, FL and Carol (Rick) Heath of Galesburg; one brother Frank D. Mower of Kewanee; 2 grandsons Christopher Goble of Tallahassee, FL and Ryan Heath of Galesburg. 2 brothers preceded him in death. Jerry attended Galesburg schools and served in the US Army in the A-176th Armored Medical Battalion as a staff sergeant trained as a medical technician and received 2 bronze stars. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a salesman for Distillers and Brewers Sales Co. for many years and was the founder/owner of Big 10 Liquor in Galesburg until his retirement in 1977. He was a 65-year member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Jerry was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday October 9, 2006 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with the Reverend Ernest Pizzamglio officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Watson Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Public Library or to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
