Jerry L. Downin

Jerry L. Downin, 74, of Galesburg, Illinois, died Monday, December 2, 2024 at home.

Jerry was born September 30, 1950 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of M. Lawrence and Dorothy F. (Schrodt) Downin. He graduated from Valley High School, Fairview, Illinois in 1968.

Jerry married Cinda Reynolds on June 9, 2003 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2023. He is survived by his sons, Nicholas (Jennee) Downin of Galesburg and JT (Kara) Downin of East Galesburg. 7 Grandchildren, Noah Downin, Olivia Downin, Elliot Downin, Jakob Downin, Connor Downin, Kelsie Downin and Joshua Downin. He is also survived by a sister, Jane Osborn of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edwin Downin and a sister, Sue Anderson.

Jerry was a supervisor in the Banbury for Gates Rubber Company, retiring in 2015.

Jerry enjoyed working in his yard and detailing his car. He loved being outside and spending time teaching his grandkids about hard work, and how to do things the right way.

A celebration of life will be held at Thomas Legacy Center on Sunday December 29, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Private family burial of cremated remains will be held at Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Midwest Affiliate, Peoria, Illinois.
