John J. Landers

John J. Landers, 71, of Oneida, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. He was born February 17, 1945 to George W. and Frances Zimmerman Landers, in Galesburg. He lived most of his life in the Oneida area. He attended R.O.V.A. schools and graduated in 1963. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Carl Sandburg College. John worked at Butler Mfg. Company for 41 years, retiring in 2005. John is survived by his sons, Jeffery (Maureen) Landers of Gridley and Jason (Barb) Landers of Abingdon; one grandson, John “Jack” Landers of Abingdon; and his sisters, Mary Derry of Wataga and Georgia Landers of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Glenn; and a sister, Jo Anne (Mason) Gebe. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Pam Marolla will officiate. Burial will follow in Oneida Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to World Wildlife Fund.
