John Lewis Carmody, 83, of 1606 Russell Ave. Galesburg, died at 8:45 p.m. on September 3, 2006 at Seminary Manor. He was born on November 5, 1922 in Middletown, IL the son of Martin and Anna Jacobsen Carmody. He married Hedwig Lenkiewicz in 1946 in Valeo, CA. He then married Margaret Campbell and she died in 1998. He is survived by a special friend Arloa “Jeri” Bern of Galesburg; 2 sons: John (Shirley) of White Heath and Robert (Cathy) of Morton Grove; 1 brother Daniel (Georgina) of Irving, TX; 2 sisters: Ruth McCarthy of Richmond, VA and Esther Hoover of Alexandria, VA. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Megan of Canton, MO and Patrick of White Heath. He was preceded in death by one brother. John worked as an electrician at Butler Mfg. From 1948-1962 and then worked at Oscar Mayer in the Quad Cities from 1962 until his retirement. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1948 serving in the pacific. He was a member of Moose Lodge #880 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 7 at Watson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home, with Rev. Lewis Woods, officiating. Burial will be in E. Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.watsonfh.net.
