John P. Rice

John Patrick Rice, 73, of Galesburg, died at 9:54 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 at Hawthorne Inn, Galesburg. John was born October 18, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of Bernard L. and Mary Catherine (Frederick) Rice. He is survived by three brothers, Michael (Margaret) Rice of Pontiac, MO, Daniel Rice and Timothy (Linda) Rice both of Galesburg. He is also survived by three nieces, Amy Rice of California, Melissa (Chris Lavery) Rice of Tinley Park, and Melanie (Nathan) Rice-Weik of Galesburg; and two great nieces, Zoe and Aidan Lavery. He was preceded in death by his parents. John graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1962. He worked for the Galesburg Register Mail as a type setter and in the composing room for over 30 years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching Fighting Illini Basketball and college football. He was a former member of the Press Club and the Elks Club. John had a passion for the muscle cars of the 1960’s. The rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will follow from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy, the American Heart Association, or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
