Joseph Lawrence (Joe) Rosenberg, 66, Galesburg, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born June 15, 1947, to Robert E. and Nadene T. (Shiner) Rosenberg. He graduated from Galesburg Senior High in the Class of 1966. In 1981 he married Norma Jean Stevenson, who preceded him in death in 2003. Joseph was a 13-year Vietnam veteran of the US Navy, after which he graduated from Carl Sandburg College, with a degree in law enforcement. He was a military police officer, then later worked for the Knox County Sheriff Department. He will receive full military honors for his 13 years of service in the Navy. He was proud of his country and he served with heroic dignity. Joe is survived by his mother, Nadene; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Rosenberg and Rev. David Rosenberg; two sisters, Theresa "Terri" Schildman and Nancy Strandberg; Aunt Gloria Carothers; Uncle Bob (Kathy) Shragal; Uncles Glen (Gwen) Gabbert and Danny (Joyce) Gabbert; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed! Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma; his father, Robert G. Rosenberg; nephew, Tim Strandberg; and his wonderful grandparents. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at Corpus Christi Parish. Rev. David Rosenberg officiating. Gathering of family and friends will start at 9 a.m. in the church. Funeral luncheon will follow the Mass in the parish hall. Burial will be private with immediate family in East Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Mass requests and donations may be offered in his memory at Corpus Christi Parish.
