Karen Catherine Schwieter, 78, of Galesburg, died Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at her home.


She was born July 28, 1946, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Willis Anthony and Alma Lillian (Price) Heubner. Karen graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1964. She worked as a line worker and machine operator at Maytag for 30 years before retiring in 2002. Karen then worked for Bridgeway for a few years while helping her son with mowing jobs which she loved to do. Mom was a hard worker in every way. She loved to cook, garden, and can her vegetables. Karen met the love of her life, Kendal Myers, and they were together for over 30 years. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2010.


Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Christine (Jim) Peterson of Kerrville, Texas; two sons: Michael (Joyce) Schwieter of Gilson, Illinois, and Mark (Jennifer) Schwieter of Galesburg; four grandchildren: Jacob (Shelby) Schwieter, Molly (Steve) Friddle, Becca Schwieter (Ryan McDorman), and Thomas (Kourtney) Schwieter; four great-grandchildren: Jax and Harrison Friddle, and Presley and Payton Schwieter; and one grand-fur baby, Sophie. Also surviving are two sisters: Becky (Steve) Nemeth, and Diane (Skip) Kinyon, both of Galesburg; one niece, Jennifer Ralston; one nephew, Zach Carter; and Kendals sons: Chad (Amber) Myers and their son Brandon, and Zach (Rachel) Myers and their daughter Lauren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her best friend, Kendal; and one nephew, Lance Kinyon.


Mom loved going on motorcycle trips with Kendal, that was their happy place. They enjoyed fishing, camping, and attending motorcycle races. She looked forward to meeting with her card club friends once a month. Karen liked spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do was to sit on the porch with her daughter enjoying a cold one.


A devout Catholic, Karen was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was devoted to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry where she volunteered.


Karen was a loving mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for being such a sweet, caring, and wonderful lady.


Cremation will be accorded. Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. Funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024. Private burial of cremated remains will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul.
