Kathleen F. Karns, 58, of Knoxville, formerly of Galesburg, died at 11:08 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Kathy was born on June 24, 1950 in Galesburg, the daughter of Raymond “Roscoe” and Joan Kling Karns. Both her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by several cousins. Kathy received her B.S. in chemistry from Illinois Wesleyan, her Masters in social work from University of Illinois, and her Masters in mathematics from Western Illinois University. She worked for 5 years for Peoria waste water testing; taught at Wyoming High School for a year; Streator High School for a year; and at Parkland Community College prior to teaching at Carl Sandburg College from 1990 to 2006. Kathy was named teacher of the year at Carl Sandburg College. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Watson Funeral Home, with Deacon Jim Haneghan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, St. Augustine. Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels Humane Society, P.O. Box 94, Galesburg, IL 61402.
