Kathryn L. Ostrander

Kathryn L. Ostrander, 92, of Galesburg, died at 5:05 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Kathryn was born June 6, 1921 in Galesburg, the daughter of Harry J. and Gertrude M. (McKillip) Burke.  She married John R. “Pat” Ostrander on June 2, 1951 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on April 30, 2005.  Those left to cherish the memory of Kathryn are her three children, Kathryn Patricia Ostrander of Galesburg, John Michael Ostrander of Springfield, and Mary Loretta Wolf of Galesburg; one sister, Mary Thomas of Franklin, TN; three grandchildren, Moira Ostrander of Springfield, Jacob and Nicholas Wolf both of Galesburg; sisters-in-law, Margaret Joyce “Dode” Larkin of Waukee, IA; Lois Burke of Galesburg, and Marj Burke of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, William, Robert J. and Lawrence D. Burke. Kathryn graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years at Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan in Galesburg.  She also was a volunteer librarian at Costa High School and Immaculate Heart of Mary Grade School.  Kathryn was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was devoted to the Blessed Virgin.    Kathryn was a die-hard Notre Dame Football fan along with the Chicago Bears and Cubs.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.  Kathryn was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who loved her. Funeral Mass for Kathryn will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
