Larry E. Walters

Larry Eugene Walters, 81, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 11:06 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

Larry was born March 19, 1943, at home in Table Grove, Illinois, the son of Paul R. and Frances (Imel) Walters. Larry graduated from Valley High School and later served in the US Army from September 28, 1964, until he was honorably discharged on September 8, 1966. On April 27, 1969, Larry was united in marriage to Joyce Anne Haynes in Galesburg, Illinois.

Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce, of Galesburg; their two sons, Paul (Rachel) Walters of Springfield, Illinois and Mark (Danielle) Walters of Galesburg; and two granddaughters, Abigail Walters and Allison Walters. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert A. Walters.

In Larry’s younger years he worked at the grain elevators in Fairview, Illinois. He went on to work for Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg, and spent many years at Midwest Hydra-Line, retiring on August 1, 2016. Larry was an avid mower, enjoying the beauty of a freshly manicured lawn. He loved to be outdoors, especially fishing and tending to his vegetable gardens. Larry relished many vacations to Wisconsin. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Military honors will be conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard at 6:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois Cancer Care.
