Larry Leroy Sims, 68, of Galesburg, died at 6:22 a.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Larry was born August 2, 1944 in Monmouth, the son of Jesse Lee and Helen Jewell (Totten) Sims.  He married Margaret Alga (Barfield) Bernhart on March 27, 1976 in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on February 20, 2011.  Larry is survived by three sons, David (Lisa) Bernhart, Michael (Deborah) Bernhart, both of Galesburg, and Brad (Sandy) Sims of Colona; 13 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one son, Carl Leroy Bernhart, and one sister, Mary L. Eldridge. Larry lived in Roseville, Illinois and graduated from Roseville High School.  He served in the Army National Guard from May 23, 1965 to May 22, 1971.  Larry retired from Maytag as a Leadman after 30 plus years.  While working at Maytag Larry was on the Maytag Trap Shooting Team.  He was also a member of the Galesburg Horseshoe Club.  Larry was an avid outdoorsman, and especially loved hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  Rev. Leroy Torres will officiate.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, with military honors provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Honor Guard.  Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Gordon Behrents Senior Center.
