Larry “Luke Duke - Midnight Cowboy” Lucas, 77 years old of Galesburg, Illinois, died on Friday, August 30, 2019, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born August 26, 1942 in Canton, Illinois to the late Jerry B. Lucas and Gertrude “Diggs” Pullens. Larry was of the Baptist faith and a true believer in God. He was raised in Monmouth, Illinois and educated in the public school system. He worked as a house mover for White Machinery House Movers for 20 years and retired as an over-the-road truck driver from the Todd-Chandler Trucking Co. Lucas was a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964, among other various jobs throughout his life. He loved fishing, listening to music and watching his “Western movies.” He leaves behind to cherish his memories his lovely wife Debra Harvey Lucas of Galesburg, IL, Daughters Rhonda L. Lucas, Carmen L. (Billy) Jones both of Galesburg, IL from a previous marriage, Marie Mitchell Nelson of Lithia Springs, GA, one son, Larry D. Lucas, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Jeanetta Harvey (Terry) Lee of Rock Island, IL, and James W.(Dawn) Harvey of Galesburg, IL of his blended family, his brothers Charles Pullens of Monmouth, IL, Robert (Bralilia) Lucas of Fredricks-burg, PA, and Earl Lucas on Canton, IL, his sister Mary Blunt of Chesapeake, VA, twenty grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews along with other family and friends, including a special friend, Lee T. “Bud” White.He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a great grandson. The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to Beacon of Hope Hospice, OSF, and all of the caregivers who were there for Larry. Visitation will be Friday, September 6, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Military rites will be performed by the Legion/VFW/AMVETS and the Air Force Honor Guard. A repast will follow at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home.
