Laura Marie “Billie” Clevenger, 88, of East Galesburg, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, 5:00 PM, at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg. Billie was born on October 25, 1929, in Galesburg. She was the daughter of William and Fontella (West) Parmenter. Billie married Lawerence Clevenger on June 2, 1952 in Jacksonville, Illinois. They celebrated 33 years of marriage. Lawerence preceded her in death on May 2, 1986. Billie is survived by her two sons, Gary (Dottie) Clevenger of East Galesburg, and Ronald Clevenger of Biggsville; two brothers, Roger (Mary) Parmenter of Galesburg, and Joe (Barb) Parmenter of Oklahoma; a sister, Colleen Cochran of Peoria; four grandchildren, Duane (Billi) Clevenger, Ron (Meagan) Clevenger, Mike (Chrissy) McDorman and Sean Rasmussen; eight great-grandchildren, Jayme (Jared) Brown, Erin McDorman, Jenna McDorman, Kalleigh Clevenger, Bryce Glisan, Colyn Glisan, Reagan Clevenger and Kennedy Clevenger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Howard Parmenter; and four sisters, Mildred Bybee, Kathryn Monzo, Evelyn Johnson, Carol Cutts. Billie graduated from Galesburg school. She was a licensed practical nurse for over thirty-five years. She worked at the Knox County Nursing Home and OSF St. Mary Medical Center. She retired in 1987. Billie was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She loved to complete crossword puzzles while drinking her coffee and watching her television shows. Billie also loved to drive her Oldsmobile. Most of all, Billie loved to spend time with her family. Her candid sense of humor and witty spirit will be missed by those who loved her most. Per Billie’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and no services will be planned. Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg have been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial’s may be given to the Knox County Humane Society.
