Leonard P. Lasley, 77, of Galesburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, 7:20 AM, at Aledo Rehabe and Health Care Center. Leonard was born on September 20, 1941 in Gilson, Illinois. He was the son of Leland Rudolph and Mabel Elizabeth (Wilkerson) Lasley. He married June Marie (Shultz) Vanskike on January 27, 1967 in Monmouth. Together they have celebrated 52 years of marriage. Leonard is survived by his wife, June; his children, JR (Tammy) Vanskike of Monmouth, Tracy Vanskike, Christina Vanskike, Laura (Richard Conner and Roger (Tonya Lytle) Lasley all of Galesburg; sister-in-law, Cheryl Lasley of Galesburg; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leroy Swisher; and brother Ivan “Ike” Lasley. Leonard attended Gilson and Knoxville schools. He worked as a farmhand, and also at Skelly’s, Winkler’s Gas Station, Ike and Cheryl’s Restaurant, and retired from Carhartt. Leonard was an avid Green Bay Packer and St. Louis Cardinal Fan. He loved to bowl and was a bowler at the Galesburg Bowl, East Main Bowl, Northgate and Monmouth bowling alleys. Leonard loved to spend time with his family, and to make sure that his grandchildren “learned something today” with every visit. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the Wataga Congregation Church, at 3 PM. Arrangements have been entrusted with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be donated to the family.
