Lester H. Freeman, 84, 550 E. Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg IL, died Monday, May 29th at 4:35 p.m. at Cottage Hospital. He was born Nov. 29th, 1921 in Macomb, IL, the son of David B. and Elva E. Formhals Freeman. He married Alice Margaret Courson on March 30, 1946 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa (Cecil) Fuhlman of Bettendorf, IA, a brother, Emerson (Eleanor) Freeman of Bushnell, IL; a sister, Janet (Carl) Houfburg of Twin Falls, ID; and two grandchildren Chris (Nicole) Gustafson and Allison Gustafson both of Overland Park, KS. Also surviving is his dear friend Ruth Joneson of Galesburg. He graduated from Galesburg High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and Korea. He was a police officer for the City of Galesburg for over 22 years and also served as the sexton at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens for many years after retirement. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, the VFW, and was a past member of the Elks Lodge. He was a member of Wiley Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3rd, at Watson Funeral Home, where visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Wiley Cemetery in Fulton County.
