Linda D. (nee Hazelbower) McCabe of Avon, IL, wife of Donald C. McCabe, died Monday of a brain aneurism in Rockford, Illinois.

Linda was born 21 Jul 1955, in Savanna, Illinois, to parents Gerald and Dorothy (Jones) Hazelbower. She graduated from Savanna High School in 1973 and was married to Donald C. McCabe in 1975. She was the mother of Corbin (Nikki), Casey (Heather) & Kelvin (Mindy) McCabe, and the grandmother of Madison, Maci, Katie, Khloe and Finnigan McCabe, and the bonus grandmother of Knox and Kruz Morales. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Dale and Rick.

She enjoyed participating in a wide variety of sports throughout life….softball, pool, bowling, and golf were her favorites, but she was just as thrilled either sitting in the stands or an auditorium watching her children and grandchildren play and/or perform. Her family was her pride and joy, she was in constant communication with her siblings, children, or grandchildren three or four times a week. She was an avid DNA genealogist and made many important Hazelbower family discoveries, chief of which was that her ancestors were Irish and not German. She was the youngest of six children, brother Jim Hazelbower of Lanark, IL and sisters Judy (Ed) Allshouse and Dolores Peterson both of Chillicothe, Ohio, survive her. Her natural disposition can best be described as radiantly happy…as almost every day for forty-eight years, the house rang with laughter.

Linda will be cremated, and her ashes buried in the Rickert/McCabe family plot in Naperville, IL. There will be a Celebration of life iat the Vault in Galesburg on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from  1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
