Lois E. Carpenter, 89, of Wataga, IL, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, after a brief illness. She was born November 11, 1927, the daughter of George T. and Rose (Hoto) Westberg. She married her high school sweetheart Gene C. Carpenter on May 15, 1948 in Elgin, IL. He survives along with their daughters, Cynthia L. Glaser of Livonia, MI and Cathy A. Carpenter of Atlanta, GA, and granddaughter, Kristin Smith, also of Atlanta, GA. Lois and Gene moved to Galesburg in 1965 where they made their home until 1994 when they built a home in Wataga. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg. Lois was a homemaker who loved her husband and daughters and spent her life making a wonderful life for them. Lois was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the bridge clubs she belonged to over the years. Lois and Gene loved feeding the birds and wildlife around their home. She also loved their German Shorthaired Dogs. There will be no services and cremation has been accorded per her wishes. Private interment will be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
