Loreto J. Ramirez

Loreto John Ramirez, 94, of Galesburg, died at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Loreto was born December 10, 1926 in Galesburg, the son of Eulalio and Guadalupe (Perez) Ramirez.  He joined the US Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1960.  He eventually moved to California and worked for Spreckles Sugar Co. in Salinas for many years until his retirement.  After retiring he traveled the United States, coast to coast, eventually settling back in Galesburg. Loretto is survived by one brother, Eulalio Paul Ramirez of Bakersfield, CA; two sisters, Mary Lou (Richard) Gonzalez of Galesburg and Jane (Genaro) Reyes of Moline; nieces and nephews, Mark Ramirez, Anita Ramirez, Nichole Ramirez, Rick Gonzalez, Gina Reyes, Jaime Reyes, Arcadio Ramirez, Lisa Ramirez, Chris Gonzalez, and Maria Elena Gonzalez; and his great nieces and nephews, Taylor Ramirez, Alicia and Matthew Smith, Andrea and Crystal Gonzalez, Brandon and Emma Ramirez; and Jude Reyes.  Along with his parents, Loreto was preceded in death by seven brothers; three sisters; and one nephew. Loreto loved spending time with his family as well as being in nature and enjoyed horses. Cremation has been accorded.  Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
