Louis Shorty Pacheco

Louis “Shorty” Pacheco, 87, of Galesburg, died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, May 05, 2016 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.   Shorty was born June 21, 1928 in Holbrook, AZ the son of Jose and Theadora Gomez Pacheco.  He married Carolina Lopez on July 7, 1962 in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on January 26, 2012.  Shorty is survived by one brother, Jesse Pacheco of Galesburg; one sister, Dorothy Gonzalez of Davenport, IA; and several nieces and nephews.  Along with his wife and parents, Shorty was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Jacinto, Manuel, Delphino, Joseph, and Joe, Jr.; and two sisters, Della Molinero and Juanetta Ramirez.   Shorty served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952 in the Korean War.  He worked for the Galesburg Foundry for several years and then went to work at John Deere for 23 years, retiring in 1988.  Shorty was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the L.U.L.A.C. Club in Galesburg.  He enjoyed dancing with his wife Carolina and hanging out at the Patio.   The rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, with visitation following from 10 to 11 a.m.  A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Rev. William T. Miller, IC will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, with military rites.  Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
