Madoline L. Root, 88, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr., formerly of 1248 E. Berrien St., Galesburg, died at 8:20 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Marigold Health Care Center.   Madoline was born on June 16, 1920 in Galesburg, the daughter of Lucien Edgar and Isabelle Honora Glenny Henry.  She married Rolland O. Root on January 6, 1945 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on July 25, 2002.  Surviving Madoline are two daughters, Dr. Judith (Charles Pease) Root of Greenville, SC and Catherine (Mark) Wilson of Galesburg.  Also surviving is a nephew Larry Peppard of Peoria and dear friend Darlene Johnson of Galesburg.  She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Bernice Howard and Mary Peppard.   Madoline graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and Brown’s Business College.  She worked for Midwest Mfg. in Galesburg and co-owned with her husband Root Sign Service in Galesburg where she was the secretary and bookkeeper.    Madoline was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  Madoline and her husband were both members of the Galesburg Motorcycle club with Rolland being the only life member.  She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for both her daughters.  Madoline truly enjoyed music, especially singing and listening to big band music at the rooftop garden.    Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Presley, officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society or to Marigold Health Care Center.
