Margaret M. Unger

Margaret M. Unger, 84, formerly of Galesburg and Woodhull, died at 10:47 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2017 in the Emergency Room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Margaret was born on July 29, 1932 in Skokie, the daughter of Rollin W. and Margaret M. Bourie Kirscht. She married Kenneth L. Unger on September 6, 1952 in St. Peter's Church in Skokie. Ken preceded her in death on September 9, 2011. Margaret is survived by two sons, Tom (Wendy) of Peru and James (Karrie) of Washington; 3 daughters, Carol (Jim) Blevins of Pleasant View, AR, Diane (Greg) Milani of Oswego, and Elizabeth (John) Stein, of Hephzibah, GA; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and two sisters. Margaret worked as the business manager for many years at Roy Freeman Chevrolet in Woodhull. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was extremely active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Margaret was also a volunteer at Cottage Hospital for many years. She was very active in helping Ken at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Margaret always enjoyed having a large garden and canning many of the vegetables she grew. She also loved to shop and sew. But most of all, Margaret loved spending time with her family. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with the rosary being prayed at 11 a.m. The funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
