Marguerite C. Carmody, 96, of Galesburg, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, 3:05 AM, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Marguerite was born on December 12, 1921, in Galesburg. She was the daughter of Howard and Sophie (Carlson) Potter. She married the love of her life, George A. Carmody on June 7, 1941 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2002. Marguerite is survived by her two sons, David Carmody of Galesburg and Joel (Leslie) Carmody of Bonita Springs, FL; her two daughters, Carol Ballard and Carla (Doug) Larson, both of Galesburg; a sister, Alice Lockwood of Galesburg; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; three sisters, Helen Potter, Delores DeWitt, Ruth Burger; and two brothers, Howard Potter and Russell Potter. Marguerite was a wonderful homemaker, who provided a loving home for her family. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Marguerite was extremely creative and loved to paint, draw, and was interested in home décor. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and was extremely fond of her pets. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Per Marguerite’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 1 PM at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial of cremated remains will be at Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Pastor Pam Marolla will be officiating. Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorials in Marguerite’s honor may be given to the Knox County Humane Society.
