Marie Louise Wolbers, 84, of New Port Richey, FL, formerly of Galesburg, died Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Gulfside Center for Hospice, New Port Richey, FL. Marie was born on January 6, 1937 in Oakville, IA, the daughter of Hazel M. (Sourwine) and Walter D. West. She graduated from Sperry High School and later married Sidney Eugene Wolbers on June 20, 1954. Sidney preceded her in death on January 24, 1996. Marie is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Scott) Howe of Galesburg and Connie (Timothy) Cecil of Galesburg; as well as her grandchildren, Eric (Teri) Schlutz, Michelle (Matt) Hunt, Jamie (Tom) Dunker, the late Jenni (Michael) McGruder, and Travis (Amber) Howe; and two step grandchildren, Ryan Cecil and Eric Cecil. Marie is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, who lovingly called her “GG on the Beach” and her brother, Robert (Martha) Ballard, Wytheville, VA. Marie also leaves behind her faithful companion, Blackie the cat. Marie was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and Fred West. Marie began working at American General Finance in 1964. Her career with them spanned 30 years and she eventually retired in 1994. While living in Galesburg, Marie was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church. Marie enjoyed spending time in Florida so much, she decided to move there permanently many years ago. While living there she met and created wonderful friendships with Lytha Jordan, Gail Green, and Jenny Harris. Marie enjoyed spending time outdoors especially tending to her flower gardens. Whenever possible, Marie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Pastor Andrew Wingo will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
