Martha A. Christianson

GALESBURG --- Martha Ann Christiansen, 94, of Alexis, was received by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:40 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born February 20, 1918 to Ralph R. and Lou E. Baker Reed in rural Knox County, near Henderson, Illinois. She was married to Alvin Christiansen, who preceded her in death in 1989. Martha is survived by her son, M.L. “Chris” (Linda) Christiansen, N. Henderson, IL; her youngest brother, Glenn (Barb) Reed, Rio, Il. as well as four grandchildren; Marcy (Jeff) Heepke, Edwardsville, IL, Kimberly (Ian) Savage, Beaverton, OR., Rob (Tammy) Cain, Des Moines, IA., Michelle (John) Foutch, Des Moines, IA, and seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Reed; and a brother, Eugene Reed. Martha was a life-long member of Colonial Baptist Church, had owned and operated Chambers St. Market in Galesburg for 27 years, and was active in providing in-home care for the elderly in the community until she retired at the age of 85. She will be remembered for being a faithful fan of the Chicago Cubs, enjoying games with her best friend Janie, her love for the country life, her roses, and above all her unconditional love for her family and friends. A visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, August 4 at Watson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 4 at Watson Funeral Home.
