Martha M. Morrison, 91, of Galesburg, died at 6:18 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Martha was born August 5, 1921 in Galesburg, the daughter of Arthur J. and Madeline L. (Lovitt) Morrison. She is survived by a cousin Robert Cox of Flagstaff, AZ; a step cousin, Richard Carlson, of Galesburg; and a dear friend, Lillie Hanna of Benton. Martha’s home was the only one she ever knew, as her parents built it in 1923 and she continued to live in it until her death. She graduated from GHS in 1940. Her first job was at the Meadow Gold Dairy during WWII. Martha also served as a crossing guard for 12 years, and operated the merry-go-round at Kiddieland for several years. Martha is best remembered as a housekeeper, cleaning homes for 30 years. She also worked for several years at Knox County Nursing Home. Martha enjoyed traveling and setting up for flea markets. Martha was a member of Harvest Church of God where she was very active, serving as a Sunday school teacher and a counselor for church youth camp. Martha was a member and past president of O.A.K.S. Senior Center, and was a member of their band. She also sang with the Goodwill Gospel Singers. Martha also volunteered at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center, both hospitals, the Galesburg Rescue Mission, and several nursing homes. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home. Rev. Darrell Garrett will officiate. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Harvest Church of God.
