Martha Sanchez

Martha D. Sanchez, 62, of Galesburg, died at 6:27 a.m.  Sunday, June 3, 2012 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. Martha was born in Durango, Mexico on March 5, 1950 the daughter of Andres and Consuelo (Avitia) Duarte.  She married Leonard Sanchez in 1980 in Galesburg.  Martha is survived by her husband Leonard of Galesburg; one son, Manuel Sanchez of Galesburg; one daughter, Claudia (Rick) Cruz of Chicago; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by four brothers, Miguel of Galesburg, Ricardo of Arizona, Juan and Gilbert both of Chicago; and three sisters, Judy Duarte of Galesburg, Irene Ramirez of Chicago, and Socorro Alvarez of Arizona.  Martha was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Manuel Duarte Avitia.  Martha was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  She had worked in the kitchen at Jumer’s for several years, then worked at Maytag, and was currently working at United Facilities in Galesburg.  Martha enjoyed flowers, was a great cook, and was very devoted to her faith. Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Rev. William Miller, IC will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home.  The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.   Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
