Marvin “Joe” Moffitt, 73, of 188 Knox Highway 37, Galesburg, died at 10:32 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, after suffering a massive stroke. Joe was born on February 17, 1933 in Green Castle, MO, the son of Elmer and Alpha Anderson Moffitt. He married Frances A. Kleckner on November 14, 1967 in Moline, IL. Surviving Joe are his wife Frances of Galesburg; 1 son Clinton “CJ” (Cyndie) Moffitt of Cedar Rapids, IA; 2 daughters Mary (Jerry) Baker of Clearfield, IA and Robin (David) Allar of Tilton, NH; 1 sister Nikki Robinson of Sun City West, AZ, 6 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers. Joe served in the US Army for 4 years and then the US Air Force for 4 years, where he trained to become an Operating Engineer, the career he pursued throughout his life, until he retired in 1998. Joe was a dog trainer, an avid horseman, and a licensed farrier. Joe’s greatest love was trail-riding at many locations where he met and acquired many dear trail-riding friends. He was a member of IOUE Local 537 then Local 150, the VFW Post #2257 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Visitation for Joe will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at Watson Funeral Home, Galesburg. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund in Joe’s honor that will be established at a later date.
