Mary E. Larson

Mary Ellen Larson, 87, of Galesburg, died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Heartland Health Care, Galesburg. Mary was born May 2, 1927 in White Lake, SD the daughter of John Cleveland and Theresa Gales Miller.  She married Lawrence Larson on June 30, 1948 in Mitchell, SD.  Mary graduated from nursing school in Galesburg.  She went on to work at Cottage Hospital for 10 years, and then transferred to Keokuk Area Hospital, where she worked for 15 years, retiring in 1993.  After retirement they returned back to Galesburg.  Lawrence preceded her in death on December 13, 2000.  Mary is survived by two sons, Doug (Carla) Larson and Mark Larson, both of Galesburg; one daughter, Terry Bennett of Novato, CA; one sister, Joanie (Ron) Harris of Milan; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Along with her husband, Mary was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Larson on December 10, 2013; 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Mary was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg.  She loved the Chicago Cubs and also enjoyed playing cards and gambling at the river boats and casinos.  Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Rev. William Miller, IC will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
