Mary E. Shaver

Mary Eileen Shaver, 84, of Galesburg, died at 5:27 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2011 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Mary was born June 1, 1927 in Galesburg, the daughter of Samuel P. and Marie E. (England) Teval.  She married James A. Shaver on June 26, 1948 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on October 6, 2009.  Mary is survived by two sons, John of Columbus, OH and Barry (Ginny) of Peoria; and one daughter, Mary (Tim) Courtney of Rio.  Also surviving Mary is seven grandchildren, Aaron, Alex, and Abe Courtney, Veronica Haskell, Jared, Brandon, and Kyle Shaver; and seven great grandchildren, Zach, K.K., Jessica, Natalie, and Rozalynn Courtney, Gabby and Will Haskell.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, John E. Teval and Bernard J. Teval. Mary graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1945.  She then attended Marycrest College in Davenport, IA.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary, the Catholic Society of Foresters.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with the Class of ‘45 alumni group. Her greatest joy was her family.  She loved spending time with everyone, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A Funeral Mass for Mary will be 10 a.m. Thursday August 25, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Don Fitzpatrick and Rev. Deus-Dedit Byabato officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Watson Funeral Home with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m.   Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s St. Vincent DePaul Society.
