Mary E. Smith

Mary Ella Smith, 71, of Galesburg, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at home. Mary was born December 2, 1949 in Brownsville, TN, the daughter of Dupree and Lue Lillie (Bond) Smith.   Mary is survived by her daughter, Stacy L Smith of Everett, WA; two sons, Cary L Smith of Albuquerque, NM and A. Dion (Kelli) Smith of Arlington, WA; six grandchildren, Astacia Smith, Noah Smith, Daesha Smith, Monique Smith, Mariah Smith, and Stephen Smith; and three great grandchildren.  Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, James and J.C. and one granddaughter, Charity Cato. Mary attended school in Galesburg, she worked several different jobs, most notably as a cook at Knox College and St. Mary’s Square.  While living in California Mary received her certificate in Medical Billing and performed this service for several years before returning to Galesburg to be with her family and friends. Mary will long be remembered for her generous heart, always doing the right thing, and as a loyal and humble person.  She loved to cook and have her many friends and family over.  Mary was an accomplished singer and enjoyed her many years babysitting and helping others. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing, face masks, and limited occupancy will be enforced.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date when COVID restrictions are lifted.  Memorials may be made to the family.
