Mary Jo Delores Schaefer

Mary Jo Schaefer 89, of Galesburg IL, passed away on December 29, 2019 at her residence with family by her side.She was born on January 21, 1930 in Galesburg IL, to Jose Navarro and Isabella Casillas. Mary Jo married David N. Schaefer they had two children together before divorcing.Mary Jo was State Director for The League of United American Citizens. For many years and retired from Maytag after 30 years. Mary Jo attended St. Patrick Church and to many especially her family she was known as an amazing baker; thumbprint cookies being her specialty.She leaves to cherish in her memories; Her daughter; Elizabeth (Jim) Smith of Galesburg IL. One son; Carlos Clewell of Dallas TX. Two brothers; Anthony (Hope) Padilla and Richard Padilla both of Galesburg IL. Three sisters; Sally Ponce, Jennie (Lupe) Vasquez, and Elizabeth “Pinky” (David) Ewing all of Galesburg IL. Three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends that will truly miss her presence.Mary Jo was preceded in death by one daughter; Consuelo Schaefer, four brothers; Manuel, Edward “Eddie” Jesus “Pato” and Armondo “Uncle Joe”. Two sisters; Helen Guerrero and Frances Cervantez.Mass services will be held 10 a.m.  January 4, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church in Galesburg IL.
