Mary Louise Charles, 69, of 831 E. Knox St., Galesburg, died Monday (June 23, 2008) at her home. Mary was born December 10, 1938 in Galesburg, the daughter of Harold and Ida Ronk. She married Donald R. Charles on January 14, 1957. He survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Donald Jr., (and Nancy), Timothy, and Michael all of Galesburg; 3 daughters, Christina (and Michael) Rasso, Teresa (and Richard) Garza, and Lori Carns all of Galesburg;19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ed Ronk of Oquawka and Tom (and Ellen) Ronk of Galesburg; 2 sisters-in-law, Lavaughn Ronk and Dorothy (and Mario) Medina of Galesburg; and a brother-in-law, Clyde Charles of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her son John; 2 brothers, Bob and Melvin; a sister, Madeline; and her parents. In earlier years, Mary worked at the former Admiral Corp., and then as a waitress and home health aid. She volunteered at local nursing homes and did upholstery work in her home. She always enjoyed music and was a songwriter, having several songs professionally recorded. She was a homemaker. Mary was faithful to the Lord and was a member of Corpus Christi Church. Mary was devoted to her children and grandchildren, especially her grandson Matthew Charles, who lived with her and whom she helped raise. She treasured the time she was able to spend with young Matt. Mary loved being with family and friends, including long time friends Bob and Lana Basham. She enjoyed camping with her family and she and Don spend many years at their cabin on the Mississippi River. She loved family get-togethers, saw the best in everyone, and always looked on the bright side. She will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27 at Watson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio, officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family.
