Maurice Andrew Godsil, 89, proud husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, of Galesburg, died at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Maury was born January 28, 1928 in Galesburg, the son of Maurice Thomas and Sophia Marie (Heindl) Godsil. He married Rose Patricia Hoben on August 18, 1951 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1995. Maury is survived by six sons, Maurice Godsil of Galesburg, Timothy J. (Patricia) Godsil of Fort Worth, TX, Tom (Teri) Godsil of Galesburg, Robert Godsil of Lisle, Joseph (Natalie) Godsil of Plainfield, IN, and John (Angela) Godsil of Avon, IN; one daughter, Rosemary (Steve) Eisemann of Galesburg; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Michael Godsil of Galesburg; and three sisters, Sophie Ryner and Cecilia Polillo, both of Galesburg, and Barbara O’Connor of Wataga. Along with his wife and parents, Maury was preceded in death by one brother, Clement Godsil. Maury served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He received his BA in English from St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN in 1953. He had a long career as a railway clerk for C.B.&Q., later Burlington Northern, retiring in 1996 after 46 years. He was a member, past president and recording secretary of B.R.A.C. Local 867. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Rev. William T. Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy.
