Michael Joseph Cone’, 67, of Galesburg, Illinois was welcomed into Jesus’s arms, peacefully and at home surrounded by his family on October 4, 2024 around 8:30 a.m.
Mike was born January 24, 1957 in Kewanee, Illinois to his father and mother James J. and Julia M. (Asbell) Cone’. He is survived by his two sons, Nicholas (Brittany) Cone’, of Ipswich, Massachusetts and Christopher Cone’, of Dixon Illinois.
He later married the love of his life, Julie A. Stevens on June 24, 2004 in Galesburg, Illinois. Together they celebrated 20 full years of love, laughter, and endless joy. Mike gained a son Jamie (Stephanie) Baumgardner, of Castle Rock, Colorado and a daughter Sydney (Dalton) Davis, of Debary, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren Eden Baumgardner, Stella Baumgardner, Declan Baumgardner, and a soon to be here grand baby who he undoubtedly has been telling all the family secrets to in heaven. Many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends will miss his generous spirit.
He has two surviving siblings Donald (Nancy) Cone’, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Beth (Pete) Golesteanu, of Melbourne Florida. He was proceeded in death by his parents.
After high school, Mike graduated from the Journeyman Lineman’s apprentice program. He went on to work for Illinois Power, later Ameren for many years where he was known for his vast knowledge and tremendous pride of being a Lineman. After retirement he worked for the L.E Myers electrical construction company, and then PAR electrical contractors. Being a lineman was not just a profession for him but a way of life. He worked hard because he knew how to do things right and would never shy away from letting others know that (his co-workers wouldn’t have had it any other way). He had a reputation that preceeded him and was always proud to be a member of IBEW local 51.
Mike had many passions in life including golfing, visiting his family and grandchildren, and cheering on the Cardinals, Da Bears, and the Kansas City Chiefs to victory. He was always straight to the point, a generous, and hardworking man who loved to be outside whenever possible. His passion for helping others carried over into helping his neighbors shoveling snow, fixing roofs, “garage talk” with the boys, and yard work fit for a king. He would take no payment for this kindnesses…Unless of course they offered him a case of beer which was always accepted.
Mike was a proud Christian, loved Jesus dearly, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Because of his dedication to the Lord, visitation and funeral services will be held on October 13th, 2024 at the First Church of the Nazarene starting at 2pm. His friend Pastor Jade Rogers will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg Illinois.
Despite fighting 6 years against cancer Mike continued to think of others and because of this he had requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
