Michael V. Nelson

Michael V. Nelson, 68, of Galesburg, died peacefully at his home on November 24, 2018 at 5:09 a.m. Mike was born August 7, 1950 in Galesburg, the son of Leo G. and Elsie B. (Allison) Nelson. He married Eleanor Cozad in 1968. Together, Mike and Eleanor had two daughters, Kimberly Niles and Lori Tracy both of Galesburg; his mother, Elsie Gibson of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, Jack, Joshua, Justin, and Emily Niles, Amanda (Jeremy) Hix, Lucas and Cody Tracy; as well as two great grandchildren, Corben and Stella Hix. Mike is also survived by his long-time companion, Linda Livermore of Galesburg. Mike was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Peggy Anderson; and one brother, Russ Nelson, Sr. He is a 50-year member of The International association of bridge, structural, ornamental, and reinforcing ironworkers. And current member of the Ironworkers local112. He was also a proud family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mike enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Some of his other hobbies included art and music as well as working with his hands. Mike also served on the Knox County Board. Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for a fund set up for Michael.
