Mildred I. Horaney

Mildred Irene Horaney, 93, of Galesburg, passed away at 2:18 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021. Mildred was born on August 24, 1927 in Morrison, IL. She was the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Twombly) Kemmer. She married the love of her life, William R. “Bill” Horaney on August 13, 1947 at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg. Together they celebrated 72 years of marriage. Mildred is survived by a daughter, Judith (Mike) Donaldson of Galesburg; two sons, David and William R. Horaney, Jr., both of Galesburg; and one brother, Robert (Anne) Kemmer of Flagstaff, AZ. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Keith (Vicki) Legge of Galesburg and Ryan Donaldson of Davenport; four great-grandchildren, Drake Legge, Kelsi Legge, Sydney Donaldson, and Alexa Donaldson all of Galesburg and a great-great-granddaughter, Sophie Bicknell of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband; one brother, Ken Kemmer of Morrison; two sisters, Vera Horton of Galesburg and Dorothy McIlravy of Knoxville. Mildred ran the toy department at Gale Ward Athletic for 25 years, retiring in 1987. Mildred loved bowling, playing bingo, taking Vegas trips with her husband once a year, and going to Wisconsin Dells with her brother and sister-in-law. She enjoyed taking care of and preparing big meals for her family and spending time with her grandkids. Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
