Nick L. Plackett, 69, of Galesburg, died peacefully, Thursday, October 8, 2020 at home with his family by his side. Nick was born February 22, 1951 in Paxton, the son of Robert Leroy and Mary June (Lowery) Plackett.  Nick graduated from Stronghurst High School and earned his AAS from Carl Sandburg College.  He married Delma Jean Russell on March 18, 1972 in Gladstone.  Nick worked at Maytag for 31 ½ years retiring in 2002.  After retiring from Maytag Nick worked as a card dealer for Rhythm City Casino for 11 years.  Nick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Delma; one son, Jeffrey (Kelly Goodman) Plackett of Peoria; two daughters, Tina (Matthew) Golden of Henderson, NV and Melissa (Thanarat Musikapan) Plackett of Hong Kong; and his five beloved grandchildren, Katherine Plackett, Tyler and Conner Golden, and Arisa and Alec Musikapan.  He is also survived by three brothers, David Plackett of Chicago, Joe (Patricia) Plackett of Springfield, and James (Terri Sage) Plackett of Monmouth; and one sister, Rhonda (Vern) Reathaford of Monmouth.  Nick was preceded in death by his parents. Nick’s greatest joy in life was his family and spending as much time with them as possible.  He loved having everyone home for the holidays, he would always greet everyone with a big smile and you knew his heart was full.  Many words described the kind of man Nick was, fun loving, easy going, selfless, supportive, and giving without expectations.  He loved to travel the world to explore and learn about different cultures.  He was well versed in many different topics and enjoyed debating and discussing them.  He loved chocolate but believed in moderation so he would eat broccoli too.  Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and limited occupancy will be enforced.  Cremation will be accorded following the service.  Memorials may be made in Nick’s memory to OSF Hospice who provided loving care to Nick and his family.
