Ofelia Garcia Martinez

Ofelia Garcia Martinez, 73, of Galesburg, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at home with her husband by her side.

Ofelia was born in Moroleon, Mexico on November 14, 1949, the oldest daughter of Esteban and Josefina (Martinez) Garcia. She was one of nine children. Ofelia immigrated to the United States in 1967, settling in Chicago, IL where she met her husband, Raymundo S. Martinez. They were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Chicago, on November 4, 1969. Ofelia worked several jobs to help support her family, the last being a cook at Cottonwood Healthcare Center, but her true passion was taking care of her family. She was especially proud of raising her four sons.

Ofelia is survived by her husband, Raymundo S. Martinez, four sons - Ray, Raul (Rebecca), Ricky, and Rudy (Angela), 5 sisters - Soledad, Martha, Yolanda, Margarita, and Maria, 2 brothers - Mario and Salvador, 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, granddaughter Marie and sister Christina.

Visitation for Ofelia will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Galesburg, IL with the rosary being prayed at 11:30. Her funeral mass will follow at 12 p.m. Father Lee Brokaw will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family. Ofelia nació en Moroleón, México el 14 de noviembre de 1949, era la hija mayor de Esteban y Josefina (Martínez) García. Uno de nueve hijos. Ofelia emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1967 y se instaló en Chicago, IL, donde conoció a su esposo, Raymundo S. Martínez. Se casaron en la iglesia Inmaculado Corazón de María, el 4 de noviembre de 1969. Ofelia trabajó en varios trabajos para ayudar a mantener a su familia, el último como cocinera en el centro de salud Cottonwood, pero su verdadera pasión era cuidar a su familia. Estaba orgullosa de criar a sus cuatro hijos.

Le sobreviven a Ofelia su esposo, Raymundo S. Martinez, cuatro hijos: Ray, Raul (Rebecca), Ricky y Rudy (Angela), 5 hermanas: Soledad, Martha, Yolanda, Margarita y María, 2 hermanos: Mario y Salvador, 18 nietos, 5 bisnietos y muchas sobrinas y sobrinos. Le precedieron en la muerte su madre y su padre, su nieta Marie y su hermana Christina.

La velación para Ofelia se llevará a cabo a las 10 a. m el jueves 1 de junio de 2023 en la iglesian Inmaculado Corazón de María en Galesburg, IL, y el rosario se rezará a las 11:30. La misa fúnebre seguirá a las 12 p.m. y el padre Lee Brokaw oficiará. Los arreglos se han confiado a Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Se pueden hacer memoriales a la familia.
