Oreonia L. Jackson

Oreonia LaShay Jackson, aged 23, illuminated the lives of those around her with her gentle soul and loving kindness. Born on July 11, 2000, in Galesburg, Illinois, Oreonia was a constant source of joy and inspiration to her family and friends. On December 9, 2023, she passed away peacefully in Iowa City, Iowa, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and gentle kindness.

Oreonia's life was marked by her fierce love for her daughter, Zemiya Sky Wilkerson, who was undoubtedly the center of her universe. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Nuvia S. Solis of Galesburg and Jimmie Jackson, of Des Moines, Iowa. Oreonia's spirit will be cherished and kept alive by her family, including her grandmother, Doreen Hernandez; her sister, Sabrina Asencio, and Nila Solis; her brothers, Jayvion and Kendall Jackson; her godmother, Ashiya Ferguson; her uncles, Isidro and Orlando Hernandez; and aunts, Leticia Mejia and Ophelia Jackson. Donald Wilkerson, the father of her cherished daughter, also survives her.

Professionally, Oreonia was respected for her role in security at the Facebook Center in Des Moines, Iowa, where her eagerness to assist and protect was deeply appreciated by her colleagues. Oreonia's interests were a reflection of her vibrant spirit—she loved music, embraced being 'bougie', and never shied away from fun. Though small in stature, her heart was vast, and her passionate commitment to motherhood was evident to all who knew her.

Oreonia LaShay Jackson will be profoundly missed, yet her loving, kind, and gentle nature will forever be etched in the memories of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral service will be following at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023 at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a fund to later benefit her daughter, Zemiya.
