Oscar Shragal, Sr., 92, formerly of 195 Pennsylvania Ave, Galesburg, died at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday August 17, 2006 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.  He was born on October 22, 1913 in St. David, IL the son of Joseph M. and Philipina Sepich Shragal.  He married Mary Genisio on October 17, 1936 in Galesburg.  She passed away on April 26, 2006.   Surviving are 2 sons; Oscar (Ruth Ann) Shragal, Jr. of Athens, AL and Phil Shragal of Galesburg.  1 brother Bob of Galesburg, 1 sister Kate Shiner of Knoxville.  Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Karie Millard and Dan Shragal of Indianapolis.  2 step grandchildren Mike Hendrickson and Terri Asher, 7 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, and 2 step great great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by  his parents and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.   He worked at the East Galesburg coal mine and the Knoxville coal mine for 30 years, C.B.&Q. railroad wheel shop for 2 years, and Midwest Manufacturing company/Admiral/Maytag for 20 years, retiring in 1979.   He played semi-pro baseball and played against George Sisler, Dizzy Dean, Rogers Hornsby, Evar Swanson and many others.  He enjoyed reading western books, gardening and growing flowers.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday August 21, 2006 at Watson Funeral Home.  There will be no visitation.  Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
