Peter Creighton

Peter “Pete” Creighton, 91, of Galesburg, died peacefully surrounded by his children, Friday, October 21, 2016 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Pete was born February 17, 1925 in Galesburg, the son of Walter B. and Mary Allensworth Creighton. He married Marie Therese Padilla in 1960 in Guadalajara. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2010. Pete is survived by two sons, John-Peter (Susan) Creighton of Cary and George Creighton of Henderson; two daughters, Margaret (Nick) Garcia-Creighton of St. Paul, MN and Carol Creighton of Galesburg; and one sister, Rosemary Swise of Galesburg. Pete is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mike, Elizabeth, Hannah, Garrett, Carolyn, Ana, and Claire. Along with his wife and parents, Pete was preceded in death by one brother, James. Pete attended Knox College and graduated from Colorado College in 1949. At the age of nine, Pete started working for the Galesburg Evening Post. He worked his way through the ranks of the newspaper, eventually becoming editor/publisher in 1959 and remained in that position until he retired in 1997. Pete was drafted into the US Army serving in WWII. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. William T. Miller, IC will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Church, the milk fund, or to Guardian Angels Humane Society.
