Petra "Pat" Leon

Petra “Pat” Leon, 86, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home with her family by her side Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2:55 a.m. Pat was born in Mexico on June 29, 1934, the daughter of Perfecto and Juana (Ponce) Sanchez.  Her family eventually immigrated to the United States.  Pat met Salbador “Sam” Leon and they were married June 30, 1962 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Pat is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Sam of Galesburg; two sons, Sam (Mary Peck) Leon of Galesburg and Jason (Shelley) Leon of Springfield; four grandchildren, Brandon (Alyssa Theobald) Leon, Hannah Leon, Tara Leon, and Keane Leon;  two great grandchildren, Grayson and Lylah; and one sister, Paula Orozco of Galesburg.  Along with her parents, Pat was preceded in death by one sister Felicia Hernandez; and one brother Leonardo Sanchez. Pat’s life was devoted to her family, raising her children, and eventually watching her grandchildren.  She loved her family more than anything and enjoyed cooking for everyone.  She was a faithful and active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Singing for many years in the church choir and helping with the Mexican Fiesta.  Pat enjoyed taking vacations and travelling home to Mexico to visit family and friends.  She enjoyed spending time outdoors and tending to her gardens.  Pat loved to listen to her sons play in their bands. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  The rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church, with Father William T. Miller officiating.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and limited occupancy will be enforced.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
