Phil E. Lowney

Phil Lowney, 94, of Springfield, formerly of Galesburg, Il. died at 8:25 am, Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 at St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, Il..  He was born in Galesburg April 7, 1914 the son of Dennis and Nora (Burke) Lowney.  He married Frances Giberson April 21, 1941 at St. Patricks Church, Galesburg, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary, Margaret Rose and Julia as well as brothers Richard and James and twin brother Bernard. Phil retired in 1976 after over 40 years of service at Weaver-Yemm Chevrolet in Galesburg.  He was of Catholic faith, attended St. Joseph Academy grade school and graduated from Corpus Christi High School.  He was a faithful member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg where he served as usher for over 40 years.  He enjoyed golf and gardening.  Surviving are his wife, Frances, daughter, Rosalie Polite (husband, Doug), granddaughters, Ann Jameson, Susan Brinkoetter and Beth Bradley and great grandchildren Colin, Katie, Grace and Will. Also surviving are nieces June Alden, Nancy Gruber and Patsy Lowry and nephews Dennis Lowney and Bernard (Bo) Lowney.    The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, July 27th at 4-6 pm at Watson Funeral Home, 1849 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, Il.  Funeral services will be held at Corpus Christi Church, Galesburg, 274 S. Prairie, on Monday, July 28th at 10 am.  Memorials to Costa Catholic High School Fund
