Richard “Dick” Irons, 76, of 1384 N. Henderson St., Galesburg, died at7:44 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg. Dick was born in Galesburg on September 20, 1932 the son of Bernard and Helen Mae Fifield Irons. He married Sandra Lee Jameson on August 20, 1960 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2003. Surviving Dick are 2 sisters, Donna Hansbrough of Versailles, KY and Mary (Vern) Johnson of Galesburg. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Day. Dick graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1951. He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1954 in Korea. He worked for Consolidated Freight in Chicago prior to moving to Florida where he then worked as a terminal manager for Smalley Trucking. He was awarded Man of the Year from the Traffic Club of Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Inc. in 1981-1982. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorial services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Watson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy.
