Rita A Wiegand

Rita A. Wiegand, 84, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully August 2nd, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.She was born October 30, 1932 in Chicago. Her parents were John P. and Della Fennelly who were both immigrants from Ireland. When Rita was quite young she and her family moved from Chicago to Davenport where she was raised. She married Jim Wiegand in Davenport in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1992. Rita and Jim had four sons Jim (Sharon) of Henry, Illinois; Joe (Jane) who preceded her in death in 1988, Mike (Julie) of Galesburg, Illinois, and John of Kennesaw, Georgia. Rita had nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rita was raised in a large family having fourteen brothers and sisters. Surviving are Tom (Esther) of Davenport, Bill (Carol) of Davenport, Kevin (Rose) of Moline, Larry of Davenport, Rose Fennelly of Chicago, and Josie Fennelly of Davenport. John, Richard, Mary Lauer, Katie Strandlund, Jim Fennelly, Anna Mae Fennelly, Peggy Kinsella, and Patricia (Tuty) Fennelly all preceded Rita. Needless to say she has a very large welcoming committee. A private family Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Chapel on the grounds of St. Ambrose University. Burial will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg have been entrusted with the arrangements.
