Robert D. Hoskins, 91, of Oneida, Illinois, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Courtyard Estates of Knoxville, surrounded by family.


Bob was born August 11, 1933 in Sparland, Illinois, the son of Neil and Violet Irene (Stoecker) Hoskins. He attended Lacon schools and enlisted in the US Army, serving in Korea. He later went on to marry Barbara Ann Melton on July 17, 1965 in Macomb, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2020. Bob is survived by one daughter, Jill Boone of Oneida, Illinois; one son, Gregory Hoskins of Chicago, Illinois; a stepson, Jim (Nelly) Stuart of Warsaw, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Julie Jones of Monmouth, Illinois; and one sister, Barbara Wilkins of Lacon, Illinois. Bob is also survived by his beloved six grandchildren, Camron Boone, Tanner (Bianca) Boone, Morgan (Ryne) Streeter, Lindsey (Michael) Kuhn, Payton Jones, and Casey (Madison) Jones; and five great grandchildren. Along with his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Hoskins; and three nieces, Darci, Diane, Debbie.


A longtime meat cutter, Bob worked at various grocery stores in Galesburg, prior to his retirement. He went on to work for Mary Davis Home for several years. A man with kind and gentle heart, Bob enjoyed helping his neighbors, spending time with his friends at coffee, and being outdoors mowing. He was a family man through and through. He loved to spend time with them and support his grandchildren’s activities. A proud veteran, Bob spent many years driving other veterans to the VA Hospital in Iowa City.


Private family graveside services for Bob and Barb will be at Oneida Cemetery, Oneida, Illinois. Pastor Scott Cramer will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Alzheimer’s Association or to the Veterans Affairs.
